Dahlia Noir is a sound-based visual novel in which the player incarnates Dahlia, an investigator tasked to resolve a murder case by questionning three suspects. Music is the key to progress through the story, as every suspect is linked to an instrument, and each dialogue choice corresponds to a short music loop added to the game theme if correctly picked. The whole theme is rebuilt when the case is solved.
The project has been developed during the Global Game Jam 2020 following the theme "Rebuild". Because we lacked time, only half of the story has been integrated and a lot of tweaks would be very beneficial to the experience.
- I have composed the whole music in less than a day, which I was really proud of because it was well received while jazz isn't my forte.
- This game jam was a really good experience to learn about all the peculiarities that a narration-driven game like a visual novel can encounter when the time is so limited.
